Booking requirements

Please provide an email address or phone number so we can contact you.  We might need to contact you by short notice, for example due to unstable weather and/or river conditions.

Please make sure to arrive 15 minutes before your departure time.

Please bring: Swimwear, towel and warm thermal underwear or thin fleece ( also socks).  We do not recommend cotton, only wool, fleece or synthetic material.

Our rafting takes place on glacial rivers where the water is cold all year round.  By bringing the correct thermal clothing you reduce the possibilities of becoming cold.

We will provide you with the following equipment:

  • Longjohn style wetsuit
  • Neoprene river booties/shoes
  • Splash Jacket
  • Lifejacket
  • Helmet

Pre-trip information:

At the start of your trip our guides will ask you to sign a liability release waiver.  We will also ask you 2 important questions!  1.  Can you swim? 2.  Do you have any medical conditions we need to be aware of?  Please answer these questions honestly.

Please advise us of any medical conditions that you may have no matter how trivial they are.

– We are able to take medication in a waterproof box should you need it during your trip.

You will need to listen carefully to the guide’s instructions and safety briefing.

Our raft guides have many years of experience in rafting.  They have first aid training and Rescue 3 International.  They come from Nepal and Iceland.

Good physical and mental condition is required.

The maximum weight restriction for the West river and Svartá is 120 kg.

The maximum weight restriction for the East river is 110 kg.

Bakkaflot has the right to deem a person incompetent to participate in the rafting activity.

Due to the risk  involved with adventure sports Bakkaflöt will not take pregnant ladies for rafting.

We do not take people rafting who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Bakkaflöt operates the trips in 2 remote river valleys, medical care can be 3 hours away.

 

 Cancellation policy

-Bakkaflot reserves the right to cancel or curtail any trip at short notice due to the prevailing weather condition or a safety compromise.

– Bakkaflöt reserves the right to refuse participation in rafting activities to those deemed dangerous to themselves and others.

  • Should Bakkaflöt cancel your trip we will give a 100% refund.

Any booking that is cancelled within 24 hours of departure will be charged in full.

Any booking that is cancelled 3 days before the trip will be charged 50%.

If you do not attend your rafting session and fail to contact us, we will charge your card with the full cost of the trip.

River rafting as any outdoor adventure activity carries a degree of risk. 

A company disclosure and risk waiver will be signed on your arrival. 

Bakkaflöt Rafting Waiver 

Participant Agreement and Assumption of Risk

Whitewater rafting takes place on moving rivers in natural and unpredictable conditions.  While professional guides and safety equipment are provided, rafting involves risks that cannot be removed.  These may include: strong currents, cold water, capsizing, collisions with rocks or equipment, slips and falls on wet or uneven ground, hypothermia, injuries from paddles or gear, encounters with natural obstacles, and limited access to immediate medical assistance.

By signing below, I confirm and agree that:

  • I participate of my own free will.
  • I understand that access to medical care may take three (3) hours or more in the event of an accident.
  • I am physically able to participate, not pregnant, and I have disclosed any medical condition that may cause complications.
  • I will inform my guide of any condition or medication that is important for my safety, and I will carry my necessary medication with me.
  • I may be required to swim up to 50-100 meters in the river and accept this as part of the activity.
  • I will follow all safety instructions given by my guides, including directions regarding obstacles or hazards on the river.
  • I will wear all provided safety equipment (helmet, lifejacket, wetsuit, etc.) correctly at all times.
  • I am not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • I consent to receive medical treatment in case of emergency.
  • I allow Bakkaflöt ehf. To use photos or video from the trip for promotional purposes.
  • Bakkaflöt reserves the right to shorten or cancel a trip if weather or river conditions make it necessary.
  • Bakkaflöt accepts no responsibility for personal belongings brought on the trip.
  • I release Bakkaflöt ehf., its staff and contractors from responsibility for accidents or injuries arising from participation in rafting, to the fullest extent permitted by Icelandic law.
  • Weight restriction for West glacial river and Svartá: Maximum 120 kg.
  • Weight restriction for East glacial river: Maximum 110 kg.

This agreement is binding on me, my heirs, and representatives.
