Bakkaflöt offers a winter expedition for those interested in experiencing the Northern Lights. The Northern part of Iceland is the best place for a chance to catch a glimpse of the Aurora Borealis in Iceland. It is significantly more likely to see the Northern Lights in the Northern parts of Iceland than in Southern parts. This journey is perfect for those who want to land at Akureyri Airport and get to the most popular sight-seeing places in the North of Iceland in only 4 days.
Exact travel times may be dependent on weather and road conditions. But a typical travel plan is as follows:
Day 1: Akureyri - Goðafoss - Mývatn - Naturebaths at Mývatn - Skagafjörður
Day 2: Travel around Skagafjörður - Glaumbær - Hólar in Hjaltadalur - Siglufjörður - Ólafsfjörður - Dalvík - Skagafjörður
Day 3: Kolugljúfur - Vatnsnes circle - Hvítserkur and a visit with the seals.
- At nighttime travelers must be prepared for the outdoors and waiting for Northern Lights.
- Extra activities can be negotiated and included in travel plans such as: Whale-watching, horse-riding and snowmobile expeditions.
